I Deep Purple sono un gruppo rock britannico nato nel 1968, fra i più importanti ed influenti gruppi rock degli anni settanta. Insieme a gruppi come Led Zeppelin e Black Sabbath, sono considerati i pionieri dell'hard rock e dell'heavy metal. Inoltre i Deep Purple sono definiti, da una parte dei critici tra i primi gruppi heavy metal della storia, anche se loro hanno sempre rifiutato di etichettarsi come tali.
Ai Deep Purple va ricondotta l'unione di approccio e sonorità neoclassiche al tempo e al ritmo tipici del blues e del rock and roll. Il suono della band comprende anche elementi pop e progressive rock .
Hanno venduto più di 100 milioni di copie nel mondo e sono stati presenti sul Guinness dei primati come la band più rumorosa del mondo.

Una delle quattro colonne portanti dell'Hard Rock,insieme a Black Sabbath,Led Zeppelin e Blue Oyster Cult.Nonostante che li ammiri tantissimo,il mio è un sentimento un pò posah,perchè ho solo Machine Head e non mi sento in grado di giudicarli.
