Buckethead è il nome d'arte del musicista Brian Carroll, attivo in molti generi musicali incluso Drum & Bass, funk, metal, jazz, ambient, musica minimalista e sperimentale. È conosciuto soprattutto per la sua abilità con la chitarra elettrica ma suona anche il basso, il banjo e il pianoforte.
Il soprannome è dovuto al "cappello" che indossa in pubblico: un comune secchiello (bucket significa appunto secchio) per pollo fritto della Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), una catena di fast-foods molto nota negli Stati Uniti. In ogni apparizione, e quindi anche durante le sue esibizioni, si presenta indossando anche una maschera bianca, risalente alla cultura teatrale cinese. Esistono comunque foto di Buckethead a volto scoperto. Però è sempre attento a mantenere segretezza sulla sua vita privata per cui non ci sono molte notizie certe su di lui, ci si basa su supposizioni (probabilmente è nato nel 1969). Numerosissime e note sono invece le sue collaborazioni, anche in campo cinematografico. In tale contesto ha ricoperto il ruolo di compositore ed esecutore della colonna sonora di Flesh for the Beast, film horror del regista Terry West, anno 2003. Spesso prende ispirazione per la sua musica da films horror o di fantascienza e dagli atleti più spettacolari del mondo (in particolare Michael Jordan).
È stato allievo di Paul Gilbert.
I suoi hobbies sono le arti marziali (Nunchaku), breakdancing e visitare Disneyland dove è stato più di 500 volte (che definisce "il posto dove tutti i tuoi sogni e tutti i tuoi incubi possono diventare realtà") e ha dichiarato più volte che gli piacerebbe che le sue ossa, una volta morto, fossero divise tra i tre parchi Disney, quello di Orlando, quello di Tokyo e quello di Parigi.
Come maggiori influenze Buckethead cita, Paul Gilbert, Shawn Lane, Yngwie Malmsteen, Bootsy Collins e Angus Young.
